As far as Eliot's writing style is concerned, she creates her fictional world out of herpersonal experience~a middle-and-lower-class rural England of the nineteenth-centuryMidlands. All her rich experience gives rise to her distinct writing features, which is highlypraised by Leavis in The Great Tradition:
Of the earlier novelists it was George Eliot alone （if we except the minor relevance of JaneAusten） whose work had a direct and significant bearing on her own problem. It had this bearingbecause she was a great novelist, and because in her mature work she handled withunprecedented subtlety and refinement the personal relations of sophisticated the 'civilization,of the 'best society,' and used, in so doing, an original corresponding to the fineness of her psychological and moral insight .
Leavis summarizes the writing features of George Eliot from two aspects. Firstly, Eliot's lifeexperience and her research into the Victorian society are well reflected in her works,whichjustifies for our study on the inter-relationship among her life, her feminine outlook and herfeminine characters in her works. Secondly, she specializes in ”sophisticated characters“ withthe touch upon the Victorian society and a daring trial on the psychological development ofcharacters.

Undoubtedly Eliot'sdeep insight into human psychological and moral aspects symbolizes her mature techniques inhandling with characters, which,to a great extent, also greatly influences her successorsincluding Henry James, Joseph Conrad, and . Middlemarch is a milestone of Eliot's mature works,which depicts a provincial life of avirtual town named Middlemarch in1830s with more than 70 characters in it Leavis callsMiddlemarch as “the only one book to represent her mature genius.” Virginia Woolfmakes- the following comments on Middlemarch:

In this thesis, researches will concentrate on the feminine protagonists in Middlemarch tohave a relatively deep study of Victorian women and their women questions in the novel fromthe feminine perspective. During the process, the text intends to find out the Eliot's distinct feminine views and her feminine characters. More importantly, thethesis will induce a relatively objective study on Middlemarch and its feminine characterswhen they tackle with their problems so as to find out both progressiveness and limitations ofGeorge Eliot's feminine views.

The third to fifth parts focus on three types of ambiguity in English and Chinese: phonological ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, syntactic ambiguity. In every broad type, I respectively list some detailed branches and cite some vivid English and Chinese examples to explain these ambiguity phenomena. But I put more focus on the third part and point out two differences of ambiguity between English ambiguity and Chinese ambiguity.
The part six will point out positive results by using ambiguity deliberately in daily conversations, advertisements and literary works.
The last part is the conclusion.
I hope by this contrastive research, we will have a better understanding of ambiguity in English and Chinese and apply it to our life and study.

总体说来，本科院校毕业论文的状况是良好的，但存在的问题也不少。刘洪泉和曾亚军（20_：218）认为，从大的方面看，本科院校英语毕业论文的水平离时代的要求还有一定的差距，亟待提高。他们还将本科毕业论文存在的问题归纳五个方面的不协调，包括论文观念与新型开放的社会理念之间的不协调，过分强调毕业论文的统一规格标准与因人而异的个性发展之间的不协调，以精英教育为目标的宝塔意识与以大众化教育为目标的国际就业大市场之间的不协调，单纯强调毕业论文的自然科学性与综合考虑社会、经济、环保等可持续发展战略之间的不协调，以及面向区域、地方经济组织毕业论文与面向全国、全球经济大市场之间的不协调。限于篇幅，本文只就管理、论文评价体系、导师、学生等四方面，归纳总结本科院校英语毕业论文存在的问题。
一、管理方面存在的问题
在论文管理方面，刘洪泉和曾亚军（20_：218）认为，虽然学校制定了相关的工作条例和制度，但是因为很多条例规定得不全、不细，加上在执行中不严格、不规范，管理中很多工作实际上得不到落实。具体地说，学校对指导教师的指导工作没有提出明确的、具体的要求，教师只好凭自己的感觉指导学生。无法从深度和广度上高效地、有的放矢地指点和帮助学生。另外，从管理的角度，学校没有从宏观的角度孵化和培植业务梯队，致使毕业论文指导队伍中缺乏真正的老、中、青等不同年龄和职称相结合的业务梯队，在实际的指导过程中有的指导教师甚至连中级职称都不具备。关于管理方面存在的问题，根据张春芳（20_：100）的研究，还体现在这样的一些方面：第一，没有明确的能体现英语专业特点的毕业论文管理条例。第二，管理机构不健全、职责分工不明确。第三，缺乏行之有效的质量监控程序。
二、评价体系方面存在的问题
毕业论文在评价体系方面存在的问题涉及到评价主体、评价标准、论文答辩、质量要求等。评价主体的问题在于评价者之间在学历、职称、能力、责任心等方面参差不齐，这种差别很难保证评价结果的信度。评价标准的问题在于标准的不统一以及标准的量化程度不高，评价者难以从量化的角度去细致地、科学合理地评价论文，所以，无论是评阅还是答辩，评价者都很难给出公平公正的评价结果，评价结果不能客观、真实地反映学生和毕业论文应有的层次和水平。更让人担忧的是，在评价论文的过程中，有的教师碍于情面，出于担心影响毕业生的前程方面的考虑，哪怕自己指导的学生再差，也让其顺利通过。这种离谱的宽容和过度的迁就往往给之后的毕业生造成了一种负面影响和错误的暗示，即，不管平时努力不努力，论文质量好还是不好，甚至存在明显的抄袭，最终都能满意地通过。
三、教师方面存在的问题
对绝大多数学生来说，做毕业论文是自己一生中第一次接触和从事学术性的研究工作。从这个意义上来说，教师对他们的指导显得十分必要。然而，教师方面却存在着很多的问题。第一，指导教师投入的精力太少，对毕业论文疏于指导。第二，很多指导教师承担的教学工作太过繁重，而教学工作往往是硬任务、硬指标，非完成不可。加上，很多学校缺乏专门用于毕业论文指导的经费，在这样的情况下，在毕业论文的指导方面就显得不是那么的投入。第三，有的指导教师存在的问题是自身的知识结构老化、观念陈旧，在具体的指导过程中难以用科学的方法以及创新的理念去引导和启发学生。从课堂教学的角度，潘淡（1991：76）认为指导教师存在的主要问题是，在平时的教学过程中，过度地强调基本理论和基本方法的介绍和讲解，而对学生会有帮助的一些个案的分析或是实践的开展，却没有得到应有的重视，致使多数学生表面上好像已经理解和吸收了教师的讲授，而在开展与毕业论文相关的具体的研究的时候，却一问三不知、茫然不知所措。
四、学生方面存在的问题
学生存在的问题主要体现在六个方面。第一，认识不到位，在思想上缺乏应有的重视。第二，对完成毕业论文所应该具备的知识、理论和技能的掌握情况不扎实。第三，缺乏对选题所涉及到的学科领域的深入了解，从而做不到正确认识和理解题目的要求和目的。第四，很难做到独立地、高效地分析和解决问题。第五，对自己的要求不高，只求能过则过。第五，没有探索的欲望，思维陈旧、缺乏创新。第六，感性认识很强，但缺乏理性的归纳、概括、分析、总结的能力。有些专家指出，学生在选题方面的问题很突出。比如，有的学生在选题的时候表现出很大的盲目性，往往是看见身边的学生选了什么选题自己就跟着选。有的学生则在很多选题面前左右摇摆拿不定主意，甚至在很长一段时间内不停地更换自己的选题（潘淡，1991：75）。而有的学生的选题则太草率，不经过前期研究或是认真地思索便匆匆选定。有的学生在选题方面表现出的问题则是，要么题目与自己的专业毫无关系，要么题目太大，要么题目本身因措辞不规范而让人看后感觉一头雾水，不知所云（张春芳，20_：100）。张春芳（20_：100）指出，在具体的写作方面，学生也存在很多的问题。这些问题体现在体裁意识、论文格式、摘要的撰写、关键词的规范程度、引文、参考文献的标注、词法、语法、书面语与口语语体的混淆等方面，而且还存在抄袭的现象。潘淡（1991：75）则指出，在论文里，学生按部就班的机械式的写作思维方式太过明显，如“什么都从概念、意义、作用、内容、方法等依次顺序排列”，很少有学生能够有针对性地提出问题和分析问题。很多学生的写作能力实在有限，词法、句法以及标点符号错误太多，很难做到将自己的思维成果清晰明了地表达和呈现出来。
在研究的内容方面，存在的问题也很突出。主要表现在，学生根据自己的研究内容收集到了一些资料，可是很多学生却不能合理地整理和加工手头收集到的资料，更谈不上在深入研究和分析的基础上，得出令人满意的结论。相反地，很多学生只能炒炒别人的冷饭，简单地、机械地将一些资料东拼西凑地堆积起来，在形式上让其像一篇论文（潘淡，1991：75）。研究内容方面的问题，还表现在研究内容的扩展上。而这样的研究，其结果可以在很大程度上帮助学生清楚明白地掌握毕业论文各部分的结构及特点，提高自身对毕业论文的理性认识，并最终从根本上提高英语本科毕业论文的质量。

Part one presents general introduction to the basic concept and the studying purpose.
Part two presents overview of the Chinese and English idioms; it concludes similar origins and similar functions. Part three emphasize differences between English and Chinese idioms.
Through contrast analysis of well-known Chinese and English language, found the differences cultural discrepancy and the translation of animal words.
Part four draws some conclusions that characteristics of English and Chinese idioms. And it is helpful to cross-culture .It’s necessary for a better understanding of international promotional communication. OK, that’s all.

I hope by studying this short story we can know more about American southern women in certain history and culture and more importantly help women in modern society get a deeper understanding about ourselves ,help us raise our independence and confidence and show more concern for our mental health.
Next , I will present it to you. Here is an outline of my presentation. They are literature review, gothic tradition , the gothic style in the story and the causes of the gothic style .
This paper consists of six parts.
Part one presents an introduction to the author William Faulkner and A Rose for Emily by pointing out the purpose and significance of this study.
Part two is literature review which introduces the relevant research about this novel at home and abroad and then points out the theoretical basis and methods.
Part three gives a timeline of the gothic tradition in literature and explains the main characteristics of gothic works.
Part four explains the three aspects of the gothic style in the novel，that is, the death theme, grotesque characters and mystic atmosphere.
Part five then explains in detail the causes of the gothic style in this novel: patriarchal oppression, the myth of southern ladyhood and Emily’s attitude towards love.
Finally, in the conclusion, the author summarizes the previous parts and emphasizes the significance of the argument of the thesis again.
