3. 对中国加入世贸组织感到欣喜之余,我们也应看到随之而来的一些挑战。

例文: What Will Happen If China Enters WTO?

Every Chinese is looking forward to Chinas entry into WTO, widely seen as a blessing and a promise of prosperity. It seems to be so at first sight, however, on reflection, were convinced that its just another coin with two sides.

On the one hand, both the nation and people will benefit greatly from Chinas entry into WTO. Shut out of WTO, China used to be deprived of equal trade opportunities and was placed at a distinct disadvantage in world trade. This situation will change if China enters WTO. In addition, foreign companies will stream into China and offer great job opportunities, which, in a sense, will relieve the unemployment problem.

On the other hand, the entry will impose some negative effects on China. State-owned enterprises in China are undergoing great difficulties, which will be more acute with the flow of foreign competitors into China.

In short, excited about the advantages caused by the entry, we should not lose sight of the severe challenges posed by it.

Certificate Craze on Campus

In recent years, to get a certificate has become anew craze among college students. Just randomly ask a student on campus what he or she isbusy doing, quite possibly, you may get the answer that he is preparing for a certificate ofsome kind. Why does this craze appear?

There are mainly two reasons behind this phenomenon. To begin with, it is theemployment pressure that forces college students to get more certificates. With the admissionexpansion of colleges, a lot more graduates have to face the fierce competition in the jobmarket. How can one make himself more competitive? More certificates at hand, , diploma and certificates are still vital standards by which a good many employersmeasure a person’s ability. In order to increase the qualifications for a job, the studentscompel themselves to run from one exam to another.

From my point of view, we should be more rational when it comes to certificates, sincecertificates do not necessarily prove one’s ability. Being crazy in getting certificates blindly isnothing but wasting time. To conclude, we should focus on improving our ability but notgetting a certificate of no practical value.

Upon graduation, virtually all college students will confront the problem of the career choice, which is truly a tough choice. Students opinions differ greatly on this issue. Some hold that priority should be given to take a job, but others take the attitude that going to a graduate school is the most critical factor influencing their future career choices.

As to myself, I prefer the latter view. A higher educational background exerts a tremendous fascination on a great number of people, with no exception to me. This phenomenon that the graduates have difficulties in finding job after their graduation can easily be found anywhere in our daily life, especially on campus. On the one hand, with the improved high education of Chinese college students which directly brought the result that there are more and more graduates every year. On the contrary, job vacancies don't increase that fast. More people, less food, which is the exact description of the hard condition. On the other hand, more and more people go on to pursue their master and doctor degree; more and more Chinese oversea students come back to China to hunt better working chances. It is sure that the competition is more and more fierce.

Therefore, it is high time that we took effective measures to improve our own competitiveness. That is the secret of success in the future employment market after our graduation.

For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic Starting Career in a Big City or Small Town? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1. 很多的大学生毕业后留在大城市工作;

2. 也有人选择到小城镇开始自己的职业生涯;

3. 结合自己的实际情况谈谈自己的想法。

参考范文:

Want to be a small fish in a big pond or the other way round? Every graduate faces this question when starting his career. A large number of college graduates prefer to stay in big cities, which mean more experiences, more opportunities to see the big world and more space for career development. At the same time, higher salary is another temptation.

But some other graduates intend to start in small towns. Even though there may not be many big companies, they can have a quieter and less competitive life. Another reason is that they can be a big fish in a small pond. They can easily get the management’s attention and may win promotion earlier.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to start in a metropolis like Shanghai. A good begin is half the battle, and in Shanghai I can find a job in a big company where I can meet people from different places and cultures. I will learn from them what I can not get from textbooks.

Upon graduation, virtually all college students will confront the problem of the career choice, which is truly a tough choice. Students opinions differ greatly on this issue. Some hold that there is no better way to get a decent job than working in a stated-owned business which will guarantee my life after retirement, but others take the attitude that a joint venture outweighs any other jobs as it may provide higher income for employees.

As to myself, I prefer the latter view. A joint venture, especially a high-salary joint venture, exerts a tremendous fascination on a great number of people, with no exception to me. Although it might be impossible to make sure my retirement pension is good enough, high-salary is exactly what I need just now. In my view, our career choices largely depend on where we want to stay for the rest of life. For me, metropolis is the place where I can grasp loads of opportunities and achieve my personal dreams. As I hold the view that live in the moment, not the future, and also in order to finance myself in some aspects such as the transportation, the house-renting, or social activities, a joint venture can satisfy my needs for the consumption I mentioned above.

In short, a joint venture is the first and only consideration in my choice of career.

Some recent developments in the computer industry make scientists predict that the gap between human beings and machines will be closed about the year

To understand the significance of this prediction let us compare the human brain with existing computers. The brain consumes electrical energy at the rate of 25 watts and occupies a volume of one tenth of a cubic foot. The brain houses between 10 billion and 100 billion items of information. Every brain cell is directly connected to many other cells. As a result, the cells in which information is stored can communicate with thousands of other cells.

However, the computer consumes 1000,000 watts of electrical power and occupies hundreds of cubic feet of space. Its million items of immediately accessible information. In contrast, the computer memory is like a cell of pigeonholes, with no thinking capacity and no connections elsewhere.

In a word, the electronic brains are hopelessly inadequate in comparison with the human brains.

Extravagant Spending on College Campus

According to a survey, in recent years the monthly expenditure of a college student hasbeen on the sharp rise. Many college students have no concept of thrift in their mind. Theytake it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into the extravagant spending is primarily caused by the following factors.

First of all, nowadays most of the students are the only children of their families. They arethe apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get more care and pocket money. In addition, withthe improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditure of their , some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tend to need more , campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.

From my point of view, a college student, as a pure consumer, should learn to be should limit our expenditure on daily necessities but not buy whatever we want regardlessof their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our futuredevelopment.

The Influence of Television and Movies

There is no doubt that watching television andmovies can influence the way that people , it seems that people are spending moreand more time watching some sort of visualentertainment, whether it is television, a video tapeor a DVD. Therefore, the effects of visual media cannot be ignored.

One obvious effect of these media is that watching them induces people to buy certaiNPRoducts. Television advertising is widespread and, nowadays, even movie theaters . Another way TV and the movies affect people is that they give people either abroader view of the world or a distorted one, depending on what type of program they who watch news and educational program can learn many new things while those whowatch primarily entertainment shows may come to believe that most people in the worldpossess great wealth and good looks. It may make them become dissatisfied with their ownlives. Finally, perhaps the most susceptible viewers are children, who may be unable to tell factfrom fiction and may try to imitate acts that they see on TV or in the movies.

With the ever-increasing popularity of video entertainment, society must pay attention tothese effects. Television and movies, while entertaining and informative, cannot take the placeof real experience.

广告是否让人民变得不一样

题目是:Advertisements discourage us from being different individuals and make us become what they want us to be and look the same. Do you agree or disagree?

Advertisements discourage us from being different individuals and make us become what they want us to be and look the same. Do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, the overwhelming influence of advertisements on media has made too many controversial social issues. Some people argue that advertisements make the audience have the similar look by driving them to buy products of the same brand. Personally, I fundamentally agree with this assertion, and my reasons will be explored as below.

Admittedly, the literal intention of advertisements is to sharpen the concept of individualism. For the purpose of distinguishing brand names, slogans and testimonials in advertisement are always full of very personalized words, including ^v^new^v^, ^v^innovation^v^, ^v^uniqueness^v^, ^v^revolution^v^, ^v^the best^v^, ^v^the only^v^, ^v^the first^v^. It is clear that core values of these words bring people a motivation to change, and a desire to try something distinctive. Consequently, the gap between people can be broadened, because any individual is stimulated by advertisements to express their personalities by buy different items, instead of following common tastes.

However, when considering practical effects of advertisements on the society, I strongly believe they play a role of depersonalizing the audience, and the first reason is that commercials are the key tool for big companies to monopolize the market. One hand, many big companies invest billions of dollars annually in making fascinating and prepossessing advertisements to attract the public, which consistently maintains the loyalty of patrons, and cultivate good impressions of potential customers on their brands. On the other hand, small companies have too limited financial ability to afford these costly publicity campaigns, so that their names and influences continue to fade and lose consumer groups. That is to say, advertisements, an expensive privilege only for rich and big companies, help these companies exclusively occupy the market, as well as reducing the diversity of brands. In this situation, people definitely look the same, because they have no other options but buy the same-brand food, clothes and devices produced by a dominating company.

Another reason supporting this assertion lies on the fact that exposure to advertisements standardizes thoughts and tastes among audiences, especially in terms of their appearance. A typical example comes from fashion, cosmetic and shampoo commercials which highlight the close-up of images of certain model or celebrity. This is a strong brainwash by implying that images of these actors are common standards of human beauty, and then triggering massive public imitation shows round by round. In too many cases, large groups of hypnotized people, regardless of ages, careers and races, blindly follow and chase so-called iconic figures in an advertisement, mainly through buying and using the same lipstick and perfume, wearing same clothes, watch, ornaments and bag, even copying the same hair style.

In conclusion, I believe the main social influence of advertisements is to make people have the similar images apparently. Although slogans of advertisements tend to individualize the audience, the truth is that advertisements not only let big companies rule the market solely, but also manipulate the public’s minds to buy the same things.

Deep Reading in Modern Life

At the picture depicts, a father told his son that he should read deeply rather than merely pursue the quantity of reading materials. It reflects that people tend to browse and scan e-books without stopping to ponder even one question. The way we read is so superficial that it arouses great concern in modern life.

To be a better reader, we had better do as follows. For one thing, take notes about crucial details as we used to do. Taking notes can avoid the phenomenon that the more we read online or on smart phones, the less we seemed to memorize. For another, classics deserve to be savored by the contemporary people. For example, some classical novels can be read free on Kindle, which makes them popular among youngsters again. What's more, if we did not make summaries from time to time, nothing that we learnt from e-books would truly be ours.

In conclusion, when we enjoy digital reading, we should consciously conducts deep reading. Try our best to keep those good habits which are acquired in the process of paper reading, such as intensive reading and deep thinking.
